A Green Future for Staffordshire

NSGP-Manifesto-2021

The Time for Change is Overdue

Our lives have changed in so many ways over the past year and now we are starting to recover and the Green Party in believe that we can only do so fairly by doing things differently.

At this election we are campaigning on three key areas to improve the lives of everyone living in Staffordshire, these are:

· Creating a zero-carbon society

· Building a 21st Century transport system for Staffordshire

· Building a society that works for everyone

It is always the right time to think Green for the good of the planet we all share; at this election to bring about real change now is the time to Vote Green too.

Creating a Zero-Carbon Society

A zero-carbon society is one where government, the council, communities and individuals work together to find ways to cut waste, reduce pollution and promote a more sustainable way of living. The Green Party believe this is the only way to step up and deal with the dangers of climate change, although not easy it is something we can do if we work together.

As Green councillors in Staffordshire we will:

· Continue supporting local people campaigning to Stop the Stink from Walley’s Quarry call work for a review of council household waste policies with a target of increasing recycling to 80%

· Promote local renewable energy schemes and the Local Energy Bill that will make them workable

· Work with the Environment Agency and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust to build local resilience to climate change

· Work to protect valuable local green spaces and the nature to which they are home, including Cannock Chase and Keele Golf Course

Working together to build a zero-carbon society will make our lives and those of our children better. We can make it a reality if we think and Vote Green.

A Transport System for Tomorrow

How we travel is a major factor in tackling climate change, reducing congestion and making our county a healthier and more pleasant place to live.

As Green councillors we will:

· Promote creating a modern, interconnected transport network across the county, where busses and trains work together, and we are less dependent on cars

· Monitor air quality, particularly near to schools and consult the public about reducing the speed limit to 20mph within two miles of the town centre

· Making it easier, safer and more attractive to walk and cycle by improving routes, making road surfaces safer and providing cycle racks on busses and trains

· Promoting the use electric vehicles by providing more public charging points and encouraging the council and public transport providers to switch their fleets to electric

A better transport system for Staffordshire will make all our lives easier and more enjoyable, we can make one a reality if we think and Vote Green.
