The Public And His Party Have Run Out Of Patience With Boris Johnson He Has To Resign. By Adam Colclough

Greens in North Staffordshire have joined with the party leadership in calling for Boris Johnson to resign and for a snap general election to be called.

A spokesperson for North Staffs Green Party said, “The public, his party and now the members of his cabinet have run out of patience with Boris Johnson and the chaotic way he has run the country”.

Adding that “the time has come for him to resign, any attempt to cling to power now would only serve to further diminish public confidence in our political system”.

The PM’s future was put into doubt yesterday by the resignation of Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid. In their resignation letters both expressed strong criticism of Johnson to who they had previously been loyal.

Sajid Javid wrote that while the government had not always been popular that had at least been seen as being competent in acting in the national interest, months of scandals and shock revelations now meant that “in the current circumstances, the public are concluding that we are now neither”.

He added that despite a “moment for humility” provided by the vote of no-confidence narrowly won by Johnson he felt the situation would not improve under his leadership and so he too had lost confidence in the prime minister.

The latest crisis was instigated by Boris Johnson having, allegedly, lied about whether he knew about allegations of serious sexual misconduct made against Chris Pincher before he appointed him a deputy chief whip. Mr Pincher subsequently had to resign following further instances of gross misconduct and has been suspended as a Tory MP.

In a statement to the press Green Party co-leader Carla Denya said that Rishi Sunak had “taken far too long to find their backbone, but their eventual resignations must now signal the end of this shameful episode in UK politics”.

Adding that Boris Johnson wasn’t just one “bad apple”, under him the “whole tree” is rotten, his government is “mired in sleaze, scandal and law breaking which has undermined public trust and confidence”.

The resignation of the Prime Minister himself would not be enough, she said, “We need a general election to give the people a chance to give their verdict on this corrupt and spent government, which is not competent to address the critical issues facing this country.”

Asked about the possibility of a snap general election the spokesperson for North Staffs Green Party said, “that may be the only way to restore public confidence, if one is called we will be ready and able to put up candidates who will speak for the people of this city on the issues that matter”.
