Members of North Staffs Green Party have been busy over the past week supporting community projects in Trent Vale and Clayton.
On Wednesday evening a small teal cleared litter from the public path next to St John’s Primary School, in the space of a couple of hours collecting nine bags of rubbish. The rubbish collected included drinks cans, fast food wrappers and more dangerous items such as broken glass and needles.
A spokesperson for North Staffs Greens said it was “shocking how much litter can collect in a small area and how much of it poses a threat to safety of people out walking or cycling in the area”.
While the team were out several members of the community spoke to them about litter problems in the area and that it was “nice to see something being done about them”.
This, the spokesperson said, was part of “our commitment to be active members of the community who work all year round to try and make it a better and safer place”.

Green Party members have also been working with Better Together Community Support Group for Stoke-on-Trent and NuL to restore a garden and vegetable plot at St Werburgh’s school on Seabridge Lane in Clayton.
When finished the garden will be open to the community on Saturday mornings and used by Better Together as a site for group activities.
The garden will also be used to encourage people to think about food waste and how it can be reduced.
The spokesperson for North Staffs Greens said “this is an excellent project that will benefit people living in Clayton and beyond. It also highlights a massively important issue around how we manage food waste”.
A date for the official opening of the garden will be announced shortly.
The spokesman for North Staffs Greens said “by taking part in activities like this we can send in a positive way the message that it is important to protect green spaces and that it is more important than ever that we do all we can to put nature at the centre of our communities”.
