Dear Councillor Tagg,
We wish to express grave concerns about the decision to fell 400 trees on the land next to Bradwell Hospital approved by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.
The loss of so many trees along with the animal and plant life they support will have a devastating environmental impact. This will only add to the problems caused by climate change and the alarming decline in biodiversity.
It is deeply disappointing that having declared a climate emergency the borough council has given its approval to such a misguided proposal. The only conclusion Bradwell residents and all other involved parties can draw is that you view the commitments you made to protect the environment as having been made on paper only.
- Kate Dewey, Senior Planning Officer at Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.
This is in no way good enough and suggests a failure of both vision and leadership on the part of the senior management team at Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council. A failing that is also observable in the flawed consultation into the plans to develop the land next to Bradwell Hospital and other green sites in the borough.
We wish again to complain in the strongest terms about the way the council under your leadership has neglected its responsibilities under the Nolan rules and disregarded the concerns expressed by residents.
It will come as no surprise to you that North Staffs Green Party will be supporting any group protesting against the destruction of the trees at Bradwell Hospital that goes about doing so in a legal and peaceful manner.
Yours Sincerely,
Adam Colclough
Coordinator,
North Staffs Green Party
